Jill Butterbaugh is an award-winning artist who has been drawing and painting for more than 30 years.
Jill received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting from the University of Hawaii. In addition to her B.F.A., she has attended several Ateliers – an intensive immersion workshop emphasizing classical realism – with more than 600 hours of drawing and painting in the Studio. Jill has a strong foundation in anatomy, drawing and painting.
She is originally from Southern California and moved to Kailua in 1979 where she currently paints and lives.
Jill began this portrait with a rough sketch of the model in burnt umber.
This is followed by the model being fully rendered in burnt umber, then completed in full color with oils. This was painted in the Atelier Studio at Windward Community College in Kaneohe, Hawaii in the Summer of 2007.
Total time to complete the portrait was approximately 15 hours.
